In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media texts?
I have analysed my two products and at the end of this post I will try to draw conclusions on whether my products develop, use or challenge conventions of real media texts.Digipak Analysis
Here is my Analysis of my digipak:
Magazine Advert Analysis
Here is an analysis of my magazine advert, explaining why aspects of the advert have been included and what things are portraying on the advert.
- For the background of my magazine advert, I chose to separate it into three parts, it shows three different types of waves, music waves, sea waves and also hand waves. This could be portrayed to an audience that Mr Probz as an artist has various different sides, and this is what i wanted to portray by doing this.
- Also I applied three different coloured filters onto the magazine, as I still wanted the advert to link to the music video in some way or another, so that the viewers and fans could make link between the two. I used the colour of green/blue at the top to help portray a sky, and then a blue in the middle to represent the sea, and then yellow at the bottom of the advert to represent sand, therefore still linking to my music video in some way, as the colours suggest a beach theme.
- On the advert I also included a small picture of the album cover on the front so that people can associate the album with this advert when viewing them.
-I chose to include a QR code on my magazine advert as I believe this is an interactive feature, so that anyone looking at the magazine can get a direct link to watch the music video.
- Another use of interactive things on my magazine advert is the Twitter, Facebook and website links at the top as anyone looking at the advert can again see who the artist is whenever they choose.
- I used ratings at the bottom of the magazine advert as they are in the line of sight for a viewer and they can understand how brilliant the album is, therefore making them want to buy the product more.
- I thought it was important to include a picture of the artist, Mr Probz on the magazine article as it can link the the album cover as it is the same person, but it also creates more of a personal link as people get to see what the person making the music looks like.
USE - Here is a list of ways that my products use conventions of real media texts...
- In my music video i have included shots that the original music video contains, for example I have included a wide shot of waves like in the original music video as the lyrics links to what is on screen at the time. Therefore this link uses conventions of real media texts.
- The narrative of my product is very linear and it comes to a conclusion at the end of the music video, and the main lyric throughout 'drifting away' also fits in with the narrative as it is represented through the visuals and the narrative of the music video. For example we see the couple drifting away through the narrative.
- The setting of my music video is mainly in Egypt and this is a typical convention which is usually shown in R&B music videos.
- I have developed the 'wave' aspect of my music video by including and expanding the ideas of it, because I have moved the symbol across to the ancillaries.
- There isn't much ways in which I challenge conventions, however i believe that is a good thing that I have mostly used or developed the conventions. I have done this so my product will be as multi-dimensional as possible. However, there is one aspect in which I challenged conventions:
- There is usually a performance element to a R&B music video, however I have not used one at all, however I believe that the way I have made my music video fits in better than if I was to have someone singing or performing.
