Mr Probz, Waves video analysis

Mr Probz, Waves Analysis

Here is another analysis of a possible song that I am going to use for my A2 music video:

This song is more of a R&B and soul type of genre, but it does have some pop/dance genre elements in there. There is an obvious story line within the video, therefore making it easier for the viewer to follow and maybe understand the lyrics more, and this emotional connection with the audience is usually something created by the R&B genre. Also as the song is quite a slow song with a strong beat in the background, this would have allowed the creator of the music video do add many wide shots that stay on screen for a while, as these type of camera shots fit in with the genre.

I believe the story line again helps the audience use their knowledge to understand the product more, as I said before, I believe it helps guide the audience through the music video, therefore making it flow and look more professional when being viewed by an audience. As the audience we are also made aware of the type of setting of the film at the beginning by the handheld vlog type mid shots as they are travelling down a road in the care. This allows the audience to get a feel for the settings that they will be partaking within.

This product does reflect society in some ways as the story line is a basic love story, however it goes against the theory of Todorov as although it has a equilibrium and a disequilibrium, there is no resolution at the end of the music video. Therefore making it more realistic for the society that they live in rather than being unrealistic with  resolution at the end.

I do believe there are some hints of Andrew Goodwin's theory within this video, such as there is some voyeuristic treatment of the female body around the middle of the music video. However, there is no obvious relationship between the visuals and the lyrics or many clear close ups of the artist, they were mainly wide shots of the partners doing things, this suggests that the artists wanted the story line to be clear in this video.
